WWE Packback 2023: United States Title Bout & Grayson Waller Effect Set
Rey Mysterio will defend his United States Championship against Austin Theory at WWE Payback 2023 PLE.
Rey Mysterio won the United States Championship by defeating Austin Theory on August 11 episode of SmackDown. Austin Theory will undoubtedly have his sights set on reclaiming the title he lost, aiming to secure the championship a second time.
Austin Theory earned the title opportunity by defeating LA Knight on August 18 episode of SmackDown. The upcoming fight between Mysterio and Theory at Payback PLE will be Mysterio’s first United States title defense.
During the SmackDown August 25 episode, Rey Mysterio was set to face Grayson Waller in a one-on-one match. During the match, Theory attempted to interfere, but Santos Escobar came out and brought Theory down, allowing Mysterio to successfully execute a 619 on Waller, ultimately leading to Mysterio’s victory in the match.
In that same episode, it was revealed that the Grayson Waller Effect show would be hosted by Grayson Waller at the upcoming Payback 2023 PLE event. His special guest on the show will be Cody Rhodes.
WWE Payback 2023 PLE is scheduled for September 2, 2023, at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. A Steel Cage match is also set for the event where Becky Lynch will face Trish Stratus.
